return to innocence
how far have i wandered away
from His rod and His staff
how have i fail to heed His voice
and choose to seek my own
woe to me who has fallen
a hard and stony road it is
battered and bruised i lay
along this hard and stony road
will He pick me up again
when i have grieved him countlessly
i have hung him out to dry
an open shame for all to see
everything i have i lost
there's nothing left for me
i have gone so far
to fall so hard
who have i to blame
but only myself and i
for all my pride and knowledge
they have come to naught.
now i am alone again.
from His rod and His staff
how have i fail to heed His voice
and choose to seek my own
woe to me who has fallen
a hard and stony road it is
battered and bruised i lay
along this hard and stony road
will He pick me up again
when i have grieved him countlessly
i have hung him out to dry
an open shame for all to see
everything i have i lost
there's nothing left for me
i have gone so far
to fall so hard
who have i to blame
but only myself and i
for all my pride and knowledge
they have come to naught.
now i am alone again.
